Maria, Contanto História Collection
''What's your story?'' This is the key question for the Maria collection.
From this, the concept is clothes that express and tell my story - origin, family, childhood - and how facts belonging to that built and influenced the person I am today, thus being able to serve as an inspiration for other people who are also looking to find this identity, this recognition, in the pieces they wear and consume. The ''story'' issue was portrayed with a playful, fun and light touch, so that it builds a narrative through the pieces.
The biggest influence on this project was my mother (my Maria) and a whole context that involves our history. The place where she was born, an interior of Rio Grande do Norte and more broadly the Brazilian Northeast and, what I call ''my Northeast'', served then as a reference.
I used Cordel Literature as a graphic and poetic basis to imagely translate my stories with experimentation with the woodcut technique and handicrafts.
The goal is for the clothing to tell a story. Building and developing a narrative that involves these moments of my life and the Northeast context, experimenting with the techniques and forms of cordéis and other aspects of the tradition.
To visually translate and create this effective link of memories and origin, the main materials are cottons - which guarantee comfort and this traditional image, mixed with experimental materials and overlays. In which handcrafts were made by me with woodcuts, hand dyeing, hand painting and embroidery.
